Dr. Erin Graugnard Rushing of Comprehensive Hearing Solutions is passionate about helping her patients in the Bayou Region. The audiologist began her career working for a private practice and quickly realized owning her own clinic would allow her to spend ample time with patients, addressing all of their hearing needs and concerns. Dr. Rushing has always been interested in science and healthcare, finding her true calling in audiology.

What is the biggest challenge you have faced over the years and how did you meet it?

“The biggest challenge has been balancing all of the duties of business ownership, from marketing to finances to patient care, but it has also been fun! You have to surround yourself with knowledgeable professionals, and most importantly know your limitations. You can’t know everything!”

Other than your phone, what is something you need to get through each workday?

“Coffee! Seriously, my patients. I cannot do what I do without the trust of my patients and their families. My patients make my practice.”

What piece of advice do you share with your employees/coworkers regularly?

“Treat each person as though this were their only appointment. I learned to incorporate this early on. Many healthcare professionals feel rushed through the day. I make a conscious effort to afford each patient ample time to have his or her needs addressed. While we serve many people with similar services, this is their only hearing appointment.”

What has been your greatest accomplishment?

“I have a passion for learning. I earned three degrees and numerous awards and traineeships while studying biology and audiology. In addition to enjoying learning, I like to teach! I teach for River Parishes Community College as an adjunct instructor, and I continue to earn more than the required continuing education for my field. I strive to make sure my patients leave feeling educated about their individual hearing issues and options. Continuing to educate both in the clinic and at community events is my ongoing greatest professional accomplishment.”

Who are your greatest influencers? How do you feel knowing that others list you as theirs?

“My greatest influencers are the small business owners in my life, primarily my father Brian Graugnard and my previous employer Lynn Creel. Growing up on a sugarcane farm, in a family business, provided a foundation for business ownership and the struggles and triumphs that go along with it. Lynn Creel owns a private audiology practice in Metairie, Creel Hearing Center, with a satellite office in Covington. She provided me (and still does!) audiology-specific knowledge and mentorship. My husband, Walter Rushing IV, is an accountant and has always been interested in business. He plays a large role in continued discussions regarding the company. Being thought of as an influencer is a great accolade! I hope that I influence people to be good, honest, friendly healthcare providers that educate and treat patients with kindness and respect.”
