Dr. Jeffrey Rau of Rau Plastic Surgery has proudly returned to Houma to open his practice in the region he calls home. Dr. Rau is passionate about helping others through the artistry of plastic surgery and has extensive experience in breast reconstruction, hand surgery, facial trauma and aesthetic surgery. Since returning to Houma, Dr. Rau has been awarded Best Plastic Surgeon and Junior Auxiliary of Houma’s Mirror Ball Trophy from the Moonlight Masquerade celebrity dance competition.

What led you to the role you currently hold in your company? Did you see yourself in this position when you started out in the work force?   “I started Rau Plastic Surgery in 2017 as the sole surgeon for the practice. I strive to be a leader and always had a vision of leading my own small business one day.”

What is the biggest challenge you have faced over the years and how did you meet it?

“The biggest challenge is figuring out how businesses work and how to deal with insurance companies.  I’ve spent over 14 years learning about the human body and ultimately how to do plastic surgery.  That part became the easier side when compared to mastering the ins and outs of a business in medicine. I’m still learning and will be for some time.”

What is on the horizon for you?

“I’m a creative person and have ideas swirling around between my ears constantly. As my business slowly gains more ground and becomes more of a well-oiled machine, I find myself hopefully maximizing my time and creativity in the operating room. This will help me
fine-tune my craft and therefore do the best for my patients.”

Other than your phone, what is something you need to get through each workday?

“My hands are the things that I need to get through the day.  It seems simple and obvious, but my job requires my hands to be in top shape.  I didn’t realize this until I injured them once while I was spending time doing one of my favorite hobbies- carpentry.”

Who are your greatest influencers? How do you feel knowing that others list you as theirs?

“My dad and other local physicians are my greatest influencers.  Their leadership is part of why I came back to Houma after training.”

What piece of advice do you share with your employees/coworkers regularly?

“I like to remind everyone that keeping a good smile and attitude is the most important thing.  They indirectly remind me with their pleasant demeanor.”
