A local women’s business group is hosting its annual awards banquet at the end of this month.

Tickets are still available for the Athena Awards Banquet, an event by the Women’s Business Alliance honoring an individual whose leadership inspires women. The honoree is typically someone reaching the apex in both their personal and professional lives who betters the community through their work.

This year’s keynote speaker is Shelly Redmond, a Shreveport-based dietician and graduate of Nicholls State University whose Skinny Louisiana campaign focuses on bringing classic Louisiana recipes together with healthy eating lifestyles. The event will feature a silent auction, with proceeds from the auction funding three college scholarships. Two will go to graduating high school senior girls, and one will go to a woman continuing her education.

The banquet will be held on Sept. 28 from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Holiday Inn on Martin Luther King Blvd. in Houma. Tickets are $25 per person, while table sponsorships seating eight cost $300. Those interested can email a ticket request to info@wbahouma.org or visit wbahouma.org for more info.
