A 17-year-old juvenile is in the custody of the Houma Police Department after authorities found him in possession of drugs and a handgun.

Today around 1 p.m., a member of HPD’s uniform patrol division was in the area of Academy and Barrow when he saw a juvenile who fit the description of the suspect in several burglaries in the Houma city limits.

As the officer attempted to stop the suspect, he fled on foot.

The officer gave chase and eventually took the suspect into custody without incident, identifying him as a 17-year-old juvenile.

Upon searching the suspect, he was found to be in possession of several bags of marijuana that were packaged for distribution and a .380-caliber semi-automatic handgun which he had concealed on him.

The suspect was taken to the Terrebonne Parish Juvenile Detention Center on charges of possession with the intent to distribute marijuana, illegal carrying of weapons and flight from an officer.
