The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that a suspect is in custody after a high-speed chase in south Lafourche on Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities said Daniel Borne, 39, of Cut Off, led officers on a chase, firing several rounds at deputies during the pursuit.

As the incident escalated, several locals posted on social media, stating that they’d heard shots and seen several police vehicles speeding down the road.

LPSO has not yet announced the charges against Borne, but confirmed he is in custody.

According to LPSO Public Information Officer Lt. Brennan Matherne, the chase encompassed a large area and there are multiple scenes for LPSO to cover, which is delaying charges.

As news of the chase made its way around the bayous, schools were placed on lock down. But at 2:25 p.m., as the suspect was taken into custody, that lock down was lifted and students were sent home on time.
