A 43-year-old Houma man was sentenced to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to 25 counts of possession of child porn and 1 count of molestation of a juvenile.

The 25-year sentence will be served without benefit of probation, parole or suspension of sentence.

Lafourche Parish District Attorney Kristine Russell announced that Arthur Thiel was sentenced to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to the child pornography charges. In addition to that, he was sentenced 25 years for the molestation of a juvenile charge.

The sentences will be served concurrent with the Department of Corrections.

Both are stipulated to be served without benefit of probation, parole or suspension of sentence.

Thiel was first arrested in 2017 after the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office received information about Thiel’s criminal conduct.

Authorities investigated for several months, then arrested him.

In court, he pled guilty in the Honorable F. Hugh Larose’s courtroom.

“This prosecution was a combined effort between the District Attorney’s Office and the Attorney General’s Office, whose work was instrumental in bringing this offender to justice,” said Assistant District Attorney Jason Chatagnier, who prosecuted the case. “Our children’s safety is of the highest priority, and child predators like Arthur Thiel must be removed from our community to keep our children safe.”

Arthur Thiel is in custody and will begin his sentences with the Department of Corrections.
