A 20-year-old Houma man is in the custody of the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office after he allegedly broke into an LDWF agent’s vehicle.

At around 8:10 a.m. on Aug. 10, an LDWF agent caught a man burglarizing his vehicle parked at the agent’s home.

Upon being seen, the man, later identified as Mitchell Nelson III, 20, of Houma, fled the scene.

The agent’s wife called LPSO as the agent pursued Nelson in his vehicle.

Nelson eventually ran into a family member’s residence on Government Circle in Thibodaux.

A second LDWF agent responded, along with LPSO deputies and officers from the Thibodaux Police Department.

After a standoff, Nelson surrendered and was taken into custody.

Authorities investigated and learned that Nelson had a firearm in his possession at the time of the chase and authorities later found the gun inside the residence.

The weapon had been reported stolen in Terrebonne Parish.

Nelson was arrested and charged with Simple Burglary of a Motor Vehicle, Illegal Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and Resisting an Officer. Bail was set at $40,500, but he is also being held for Louisiana Probation and Parole due to a probation violation.
