Call of reckless driving leads Houma Police to meth arrest

A 29-year-old convicted felon is in the custody of the Houma Police Department on multiple drug charges after a traffic stop led officers to narcotics inside of his backpack.
On Aug. 7, 2019, at approximately 9:30 p.m., a HPD Uniform Patrol Officer was patrolling in the area of Park and Wright Avenue when the officer observed a Black BMW x5 without a license plate displayed on the vehicle.
The officer conducted a traffic stop on Wright Avenue near Park and made contact with the occupants of the vehicle – three adults and two small children.
As the investigation continued, a HPD Narcotics Agent arrived, along with his K-9 partner “Gunner”.
An external sweep of the vehicle was conducted and Gunner indicated that there were illegal narcotics inside the vehicle.
A search was conducted and a backpack was located inside the car. Inside it was heroin, crack cocaine, powder cocaine and a 9mm semi-automatic handgun.
Authorities said that Dyron Harris, 29, claimed ownership of the backpack and was taken into custody without incident.
Harris was booked for charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm while in the possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession with the intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession with the intent to distribute crack cocaine, possession of a stolen firearm, possession with the intent to distribute heroin, transactions involving proceeds from CDS activity and illegal use of narcotics in the presence of people under 17.
The driver was a 29-year-old female. She was cited for license plate required and child passenger restraint required.
