A Terrebonne Parish man is charged with second-degree rape and cruelty to a juvenile in connection with allegations that he victimized a young female relative.

His wife is also charged with cruelty to a juvenile in connection with those allegations.

Detectives began an investigation on Aug. 12 after receiving a complaint about abuse of a 12-year-old.

In addition to the sexual abuse allegations, detectives were also told that the child was forced to remain outside the couple’s home for a week, only allowed to come inside to shower. The child allegedly had to stay in a makeshift tent.

Another child, age 11, was subjected to abuse.

The parents were arrested and booked into the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex.

TPSO is keeping their names private to protect the identities of the victims.

The investigation into the incident is on-going and more charges may come in the future.
