Two Thibodaux natives are in the custody of the city police department after a traffic stop yielded a drug arrest.

On Sept. 28, shortly before 7 p.m., TPD stopped a black Chevrolet pickup for for using multiple beam roadway lighting equipment.

The vehicle was stopped on Canal Boulevard near East 3rd Street and the driver was identified as Jerome Zeringue Jr., 35, of Thibodaux. The front seat passenger was identified as Courtney Hebert. A juvenile was also in the vehicle.

During the stop, officers smelled the odor of marijuana emitting from the inside of the vehicle. Zeringue denied officers consent to search the vehicle, which resulted in a K-9 conducting an exterior sniff, which alerted officers of the presence of narcotics on the inside.

Officers then conducted a search of the vehicle, which rendered the findings of multiple Hydrocodone tablets, a bag contained suspected crystal methamphetamine residue and a glass smoking pipe.

Mr. Zeringue was also found to be in possession of suspected MDMA and more crystal methamphetamine.

Ms. Hebert admitted to smoking the marijuana, so she was charged with possession of marijuana and possession or distribution of drug paraphernalia. She was released with a misdemeanor summons.

Zeringue was charged with the remainder of the found narcotics and later taken to the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex where he posted a $7,500 bond.

He is charged with possession of methamphetamine less than 28 grams (felony), possession of MDMA (felony) and possession of Hydrocodone (felony).

Editor’s Note: Mr. Zeringue Jr. is of no relation to Representative Jerome Zeringue of Houma.
