Shortly before 11:30 a.m. on January 3, Troopers with Troop C responded to a two-vehicle fatality crash on LA 3235 at West 134th Street. The crash took the life of 69-year-old Oliver Danos.

The preliminary investigation revealed Danos was traveling west on West 134th in a 2003 Mercury Sable. He reached LA 3235 and entered the intersection while a 2016 Toyota Tacoma driven by 58-year-old Mitchell Miguez of Harvey approached from the south. Danos’ vehicle was struck by the Tacoma and despite being properly restrained, he suffered fatal injuries. Miguez was properly restrained and did not receive any injuries. Impairment is unknown on the part of Danos and a standard toxicology report is pending. Miguez provided a breath sample which showed no alcohol present. This crash remains under investigation.

Troopers remind motorists to always look and make sure it is clear before pulling into traffic or across intersections. Never try and “make it” across when it is unsafe to do so. While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant, front seat and back seat, to be properly restrained day or night.

This is the first fatal crash of 2020 that Troop C has investigated.
