A 42-year-old Des Allemands man has been identified and will soon be charged by the Thibodaux Police Department for hit and run driving.

On July 10 just before 7:30 a.m., the Thibodaux Police Department responded to the area of West 1st Street and Jackson Street to investigate a crash.

When in-route, the at-fault vehicle fled the scene before police could arrive.

Due to the victim being able to give a thorough description of the driver and taking pictures of the fleeing vehicle, authorities were able to use TPD’s social media to ask for public assistance in the case.

On July 24, the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office located the suspect’s vehicle where it was found to be abandoned on the shoulder of U.S. Highway 90.

The vehicle was learned to be registered to John L. Williams, 42, of Des Allemands.

Through investigation, TPD detectives learned that Williams had been recently arrested and was incarcerated at the Nelson Coleman Correctional Center (St. Charles Parish) on outstanding warrants.

St. Charles authorities learned that he also had active warrants in Jefferson Parish, as well.

Once learning this, TPD detectives went to the Nelson Coleman Correctional Center and interviewed Williams. He allegedly admitted to being the driver during the hit and run.

He told authorities that he fled the scene because he knew he had active warrants for his arrest.

Williams remains incarcerated on his previous warrants and another has been issued through Thibodaux City Court for the violation of hit and run.

Once released, Williams will be taken to the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex where he will be booked on the aforementioned charges.

Bond will be set at $1,000 once he is taken to Lafourche.
