A traffic stop this morning led Houma Police Officers to 79 grams of marijuana.

This morning at approximately 2 a.m., Houma Police Officers stopped a 2018 Ford Fusion at the intersection of South Van Avenue and Grand Caillou Road.

The patrol officer observed that the vehicle was failing to proceed through a green traffic signal and was obstructing the intersection.

Officers then contacted the driver and found that he was asleep at the wheel, identifying him as Dan Mitchell, 24.

Authorities said they detected the strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Authorities searched and located 79 grams of marijuana, a digital scale and $702 in cash inside.

Dan Mitchell was then placed under arrest for the charges of Stopping, Standing or Parking in specified Places, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession with the intent to Distribute Marijuana and Transactions Involving Proceeds from CDS.
