A Cut Off man was indicted today on charges of first-degree rape and sexual battery.

Lafourche DA Kristine Russell announced the Grand Jury indictment of Morgan Ratley, 52, of Cut Off, on the above-stated charges.

Ratley’s indictment came after Lafourche Assistant District Attorney Greg Stahlnecker Jr. presented the facts to a Lafourche Parish Grand Jury.

Ratley is accused of holding a mother and daughter hostage during Hurricane Barry. He allegedly also committed rape during the incident.

Ratley is scheduled to be arraigned on Sept. 9.

If convicted, he faces a mandatory life sentence.

Ratley is being held on a $135,000 bond at the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex.
