A School Traffic Guard has died after being struck by a vehicle this morning in the northern area of Lafourche Parish.

This morning, shortly before 8:00 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop C responded to a crash involving a pedestrian on Louisiana Highway 20 in Lafourche Parish.  The crash claimed the life of a Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office school crossing guard.

The initial investigation revealed the crossing guard was struck by a 2000 Ford F-150 pickup as it was traveling south in front of Chackbay Elementary School. The truck was driven by 83-year-old Jerry Matt of Thibodaux. Matt was wearing his seat belt and was not injured.

The school crossing guard, 67-year-old Larry Boudreaux of Thibodaux, was pronounced dead at the scene.

This crash, including the actions of Boudreaux at the time of the collision, remain under investigation.  Routine toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted for analysis.

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre said, “We are devastated by the news of this incident. My prayers and deepest sympathies go out to the family involved, as well as our Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office family as a whole.”
