Nicholls State University is asking for public help in getting information about an incident in Ellender Residence Hall where a male appeared to brandish a handgun.

Nicholls President Dr. Jay Clune made the public aware of the investigation into the incident, asking for public help to generate information.

Clune said an investigation revealed that the device was a soft-BB-style hand gun.

“We take this sort of report very seriously for the safety of the entire campus community. Nicholls State University is a weapon-free zone,” Dr. Clune said. “We did not issue an imminent danger warning as the incident was not reported at the time it occurred.”

Nicholls University Police will be collaborating with the Thibodaux Police Department to use all resources available.

Authorities are reviewing video footage of the incident.
