A suspect is in custody of the Houma Police Department after he allegedly stabbed someone at the Sugar Bowl Motel.

On Sunday morning just before 1 a.m., HPD responded to the local business in reference to a call about a disturbance.

During investigation, officers learned that two males were involved in an altercation and one was stabbed in the melee. As the investigation continued, HPD learned that the victim was a 54-year-old male. He was stabbed in the lower abdomen.

Through questioning, authorities learned through the victim that he was approached by a black man who he called “Bubba.” The victim said Bubba attempted to rob him upon contact.

During a struggle, “Bubba” allegedly stabbed the victim, then fled the scene on a bike in the direction of Terrebonne General Medical Center.

HPD was able to place a precise name to “Bubba”, learning that he is actually Shedrick Rollins, 56, of Dewey Street, Houma.

Officers searched the area and then located the suspect, taking him into custody.

He is charged with one count of aggravated battery.

Anyone with information on any illegal activity is encouraged to contact the Houma Police Department or Bayou Region Crime Stoppers at 1-800-743-7433.
