A 29-year-old Houma woman is in custody of the Houma Police Department after she allegedly drove with heroin in her system, nearly causing several wrecks.

On April 11, shortly after 9 a.m., HPD was called out to the intersection of Park Avenue and Connley Street in reference to a Dodge Ram pickup truck sitting stationary in the middle of the crossing.

During investigation, HPD contacted witnesses who said that the vehicle was seen traveling through city limits recklessly – allegedly nearly causing several accidents.

When HPD contacted the driver of the vehicle, they identified her as Brandy L. Griffin, 29, of Suthon Avenue. Authorities also learned that the suspect was on her way to substance abuse rehab at the time of the incident, but decided to take “a hit” of heroin before her arrival.

HPD said it located a syringe with suspected heroin inside the vehicle, which led them to take Griffin into custody.

The suspect is charged with possession of heroin and reckless operation of a motor vehicle.

She was taken to the Terrebonne Parish Jail.
