A 19-year-old Thibodaux man is arrested and charged for his alleged role in a shooting in Thibodaux on Sept. 16.


Tyrese Fletcher, 19, of Thibodaux, is charged with illegal possession of a stolen firearm, attempted second-degree murder, aggravated criminal damage to property and simple criminal damage to property after a lengthy investigation identified him as the suspect in the case.

On the above-listed date at around 6:20 p.m., members of the Thibodaux Police Department were called to a shooting that occurred in the 1800 block of Badt Avenue where a victim suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Authorites got to the scene and saw a suspicious subject frantically entering a vehicle, while speeding off.


Officers later stopped the vehicle and discovered an occupant, Travon Dunmiles, was shot and was being taken to a local hospital.

Acadian Ambulance Services was immediately called to the scene to render aid.

Mr. Dunmiles was taken to a local hospital and treated. The victim reported that the transporting vehicle was also shot in the incident.


Authorities secured the crime scene on the 1800 Block of Badt Avenue and learned that numerous uninvolved vehicles and an apartment complex were also struck by gunfire during the incident.

TPD was called to the scene to process for evidence and the investigation has been ongoing since the incident, leading to the arrest.

Fletcher was arrested on Oct. 5 for an outstanding warrant for illegal possession of a stolen firearm.


The particular charge was separate from the shooting. Upon further investigation, Flethcer was able to be linked to the shooting, which led to additional warrants and the charges listed above.

Other suspects are not being ruled out, as the Thibodaux Police Department Criminal Investigations Division will continue working diligently, following every lead necessary to apprehend any and all responsible parties involved.

Mr. Fletcher was transported to the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex, where he is being held on a $287,500.00 bond.


The incident remains under investigation and a suspected motive of the shooting is still being withheld at this time, in attempt to protect the integrity of the investigation. More information will be released as it can be made available to the public.
