A 39-year-old Thibodaux man is charged with kidnapping and sexual battery after a missing person report sparked an investigation.

At around 1 a.m. on June 22, the Thibodaux Police Department responded to a report that a mentally disabled woman in her 40s was missing.

It was then suspected that Anthony Adams, 39, of Thibodaux, who is known to the family, may have picked up the woman earlier in the evening.

Authorities later learned through investigation that Adams was at a motel outside of Thibodaux city limits.

Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to the motel and found Adams’ vehicle.

After determining which room the suspect was in, they attempted to make contact.

After some time, Adams came to the door. Authorities were able to locate the missing woman inside of the hotel room and she allegedly appeared emotionally distraught.

Detectives responded to the scene.

Through investigation, they learned that Adams sexually battered the woman after removing her from her home without proper permission. The woman then asked to leave, but Adams refused to take her home.

Following investigation, Adams was arrested.

He is charged with simple kidnapping and misdemeanor sexual battery. He was released after posting a $6,500 bond.
