What was supposed to be a cash sale of a cell phone and sneakers turned into an armed robbery on Wednesday in Houma.


On Sept. 4 just before 5 p.m., Houma Police responded to the area of Van Avenue and Acadian Drive in reference to an armed robbery.

While responding, authorities learned that 3 subjects armed with a weapon robbed two victims.

Officers learned that the description of the suspects were two males and a female.


Further investigation into the incident led officers to identify the individuals as Delanceo Bates, 17, of Melrose Avenue and Lance Harold, 17, of Senator Circle.

HPD learned that the suspects met the victims at a location to purchase a cellphone and sneakers.

Once the subjects met the victims, a weapon was pulled and money was demanded from the victims, in addition to the items.


After the robbery, the victims ran to a local business and alerted the police.

HPD got to the area and located the suspects. After a brief foot pursuit, the suspects were apprehended and property was recovered. Authorities also located the weapon used in the robbery, a semi-automatic pistol.

Bates and Harold were charged with two counts of armed robbery along with other charges related to the incident.


Houma Police learned the weapon used in the incident was reported stolen in a vehicle burglary in July of this year. Taking this into consideration, Lance Harold was charged additionally with Possession of a Stolen Firearm. Both were transported to the jail to be booked accordingly.
