The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office announced today that a scam is currently targeting registered sex offenders.

In the scam, sex offenders are receiving phone calls from someone claiming to be a Terrebonne Parish Judge. During the call, the offender is told that he/she has active warrants and must pay $750 to have them removed.

TPSO said today those calls are absolutely false and in no case would a judge or TPSO use the phone to request money from a person.

If contacted, TPSO urges: please do not wire, transfer or give bank account or debit card information to anyone you do not do business with normally.

Although these calls have been received by registered sex offenders so far, it is possible that other individuals may receive them as well.

If a call like this is received please contact the Sheriff’s Office at (985) 876-2500.
