A local couple was honored last week by Terrebonne General Medical Center for their continued commitment to the hospital and its future.

Married Houma couple Ron and Sandy Brooks were given the Healthcare Humanitarian Award by TGMC – the first such award given by the hospital, which hopes it will become an annual honor.

The Brooks family was given the honor at a donor reception held recently to recognize the contributions of numerous donors to the Foundation for Terrebonne General Medical Center.

“Ron and Sandy Brooks play pivotal roles in positively impacting the lives of our patients,” said Phyllis Peoples, the President and CEO of TGMC. “With their endless commitment and compassion towards others, the Brooks’ are driving forces in helping TGMC further provide exceptional healthcare.”

Ron Brooks, a local businessman, has served on TGMC’s Board of Directors for three years.

In his role, Brooks continuously plays an active role in signature events at TGMC, most notably the Ron Brooks Blood Drive.

The annual drive, which Brooks initiated more than a decade ago, encourages the community to provide blood at the TGMC Blood Donor Center. With it, the hospital is able to provide vital blood donations to thousands of patients in need every year.

According to the hospital, TGMC’s Blood Donor Center has received more than 6,500 pints of blood.

The Healthcare Humanitarian Award was created by TGMC to recognize individuals who have provided exceptional services to the Foundation and to the general public in terms of healthcare.
