It’s hard to believe that summer is already coming to a close. Now it’s time to buy school supplies, get new uniforms, and start going to bed just a little bit earlier.

The Terrebonne Parish Library is ready to help you get off on the right foot. Along with all the wonderful print resources that are available for you to check out at one of our nine branches, we have online resources to help you prep for tests, research for projects, and there is even free online tutoring available through www.homeworkla.org!

While you are getting ready for the first day back, check out one of these books. All three books and more are available through the Terrebonne Parish Library System, and you can reserve a copy today at www.mytpl.org.

New Kid
Written and Illustrated by Jerry Craft

The first day of school isn’t just tough for kindergartners, it can also be hard for those starting new schools. Whether it is because of a move across town, going into jr. high, or the opportunity to attend a better school like Jordan Banks, being the new kid is no easy task. In the graphic novel, New Kid, we get to follow Jordan on his journey to a posh new private school. He has to learn how to navigate not only an unfamiliar school but also his new life as one of the few students of color on campus. Will he be able to survive the mandatory sports, peer pressures, and pink, er…salmon, shorts of his new school? •
