Hello, friends! Each year on the third Monday of February, we celebrate Presidents’ Day to honor the achievements of all U.S. presidents, past and present.
Presidents’ Day was originally two holidays celebrating the birthdays of our first president, George Washington (February 22), and our 16th president, Abraham Lincoln (February 12). The two holidays were combined and moved to the third Monday in February in 1971.
Presidents’ Day is often celebrated with patriotic celebration and remembrance.
Another way we honor both Washington and Lincoln is by having their portraits on our money. Washington is featured on the $1 bill as well as the quarter. Lincoln’s portrait can be found on the $5 bill as well as the penny. •
