Dr. Nayan Agarwal, an interventional cardiologist at Cardiovascular Institute of the South (CIS) has become the first doctor in the Bayou Region to use the VICI Venous Stent System for patients with venous disease.
The system delivers the radial strength required to maintain a circular opening in the vein to restore flow effectively and ultimately improve clinical outcomes for patients. This self-expanding stent features a distinctive closed-cell design and it’s designed to be flexible and crush resistant, thus restoring blood flow from the lower limbs.
Venous disease currently affects nearly 40 percent of the population in the United States and it can be caused by conditions such as deep vein thrombosis, Post Thrombotic Syndrome (PTS) and also compressive diseases such as May-Thurner Syndrome.
If untreated, the diseases can cause pain, swelling and ulcer formation.
“This new stent system provides both clinicians and patients with an alternative treatment option that will provide patients with an increased quality of life,” Dr. Agarwal said.
