Terrebonne General Medical Center (TGMC) celebrated National Donate Life Month in collaboration with Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency (LOPA) and Southern Eye Bank to accomplish lifesaving goals. TGMC’s annual Flag Raising Ceremony on April 17, 2019, served to remind individuals that organ, eye, and tissue transplants offer patients a new chance at healthy, productive, and normal lives. Donate Life Louisiana is a collaboration of the organ procurement organization, eye banks, transplant centers and others committed to donation and transplantation where TGMC plays an active role in creating awareness.

TGMC has taken the initiative to educate our community about the benefit of donation by collaborating with the Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency (LOPA) and Southern Eye Bank. Since 2008 TGMC has set aside a day in April to recognize the importance of organ donation for those waiting on the transplant list and for those who have made the ultimate sacrifice and donated the gift of life.

Nine years ago, TGMC took a major step in their public commitment to this initiative and unveiled a very special Wall of Heroes. The wall pays tribute to those Heroes who gave the Gift of Life through organ, tissue and/or eye donation.

“We are fully committed to donate life initiative and we will continue to promote organ donation awareness and honor donors in our community,” said Phyllis Peoples, TGMC President and CEO. •
