Terrebonne General Medical Center has awarded oncologist Dr. Robert Gamble as the recipient of its Golden Stethoscope Award.

The Golden Stethoscope Award publicly recognizes a TGMC physician for his/her exceptional level of professionalism, integrity and teamwork in caring for patients and families, as well as interactions with co-workers at the hospital.

Nominations are made by employees and patients and TGMC recognizes two physicians a year with the honor.

Dr. Gamble, an oncologist at the Mary Bird Perkins TGMC Cancer Center, has worked for TGMC for 31 years. In his career, his dedication to patients has been unwavering.

Dr. Gamble is an active member on the Cancer Committee, which is committed to maintaining innovative and successful cancer practices.

“Dr. Gamble helps guide his patients through one of the most challenging times of their lives,” TGMC President and CEO Phyllis Peoples said. “He brings them hope and compassion. He’s an asset to the organization and community.”

Dr. Gamble said he receives the honor with humility, adding that it’s one of the biggest blessings of his professional career.

“I have been blessed with the privilege of being a member of the TGMC medical staff since 1987,” Dr. Gamble said. “On a near-daily basis, I am reminded of the selflessness of members of this medical staff who work tirelessly to ensure the health and wellbeing of their patients. It is this devotion to duty that reminds me of what it means to be a physician. This is a great honor – one that I will cherish for years to come.”
