The Houma Fire Department is asking for cooperation from parade-goers of tonight’s Houma east side parade regarding vehicle parking.

According to the HFD Facebook page, the Eastside parade presents a huge complex logistical event for the Houma Fire and Police Departments, as well as Acadian Ambulance Service.

They are requesting that parade-goers do not park vehicles in the roadway, or on the corners of any street. Fire trucks are large vehicles that need room to make turns. Illegal parking either on the parade route or in neighborhoods can cause a major impact on our response to emergencies that happen during the parade.

The Fire Dept. reminds parade-goers that the dept. does NOT put firetrucks in the parade, so if you see one coming, with lights and sirens during the parade they are en route to an emergency. Please clear the road, and make way for them to pass.

As a final reminder, do not block intersections or fire hydrants. Someone’s life including yours could depend on it!
