The Lenox Hotard American Legion post’s 62nd annual Teenager of the Year dinner and awards ceremony is Saturday night and tickets are still available.

Each year the post hosts a special program at which its Teenager of the Year is announced, chosen from nominations by educators all over Terrebonne Parish.

All nominees are recognized for their volunteer services at schools, in faith and civic communities and other good works. Each high school may nominate four students for recognition. The thirty-one nominees, with their parents, school officials and distinguished guests and sponsors are guests of the post at the dinner, which is aided by the Terrebonne Foundation for Academic Excellence. An Educator of the Year is also announced.

Selections of the outstanding Teenager and Educator are made through a blind review process by a committee of veterans, past American Legion commanders and educators from the TFAE. The featured speaker for Saturday’s banquet will be Dr. Jay Clune, President of Nicholls State University. Representatives of the Houma-Terrebonne Chamber of Commerce, the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education, Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government and the Terrebonne Parish School Board are expected to be in attendance.

Sponsors of the event includethe  TGMC Community Sports Institute, Claudet Properties, LLC; Houma Area Convention and Visitor’s Bureau; Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government; Terrebonne Foundation for Academic Excellence; GIS Engineering; Nicholls State University Veterans Community; Christen and Rhymes; SONOCO; DL Wealth Management, South Louisiana Bank; HTV-10; Synergy Bank; LaFont and Associates; Oral Facial Surgery; NVI, LLC; Regional Military Museum; St. Matthews Episcopal School; Carbotec, Inc, and, Ardoyne Plantation, LLC.

This American Legion post’s recognition of the Teenager of the Year began in 1957. The first winner was Leo Hebert, Jr. (now Dr. Hebert). Tickets for the dinner and program are $20.00 each with corporate sponsorships still available. Call Lee Shaffer at 985-804-2276 for details.
