Next week, some of the most powerful and influential figures in the Bayou Region business community will bid adieu to a figure who they’ve jokingly said lord over them.

Jane Arnette’s final meeting as the Executive Director of the South Central Industrial Association takes place on Tuesday. Arnette is retiring after 15 years of service with SCIA.

Former Shell engineering executive and current State Senator Sharon Hewitt is the featured speaker at the meeting. SCIA will honor the Geomatics, Mass Communications and Petroleum Engineering Technology and Safety Management programs at Nicholls State University, as well.

Arnette has helped grow and shepherd SCIA through both boom and bust times related to the cyclical oil and gas economy. She developed awareness endeavors such as Work It! Louisiana program, which covers six parishes and promotes workforce development for South Louisiana industry.

Before working with SCIA, Arnette spent more than 15 years with the Cardiovascular Institute of the South and Terrebonne General Medical Center before that as a marketing official. While she is retiring, Arnette plans on consulting on media and marketing strategies for select companies when she is done at SCIA. Christy Naquin is slated to be SCIA’s next Executive Director, starting next month.
