Two Napoleonville men have been charged in connection with the 2014 murder of a Thibodaux matriarch in the small convenience store that her family owned, and detectives say the motive was robbery.

The shooting death of 57-year-old Lillian Alexis sent shockwaves through Thibodaux, where friends and family members still mourn a woman they describe as a a loving mother and giving member of the community.

Bruce Johnson, 27, and Anthony Ayrow, 30, were charged with one count each of first-degree murder. Ayrow was already in custody at the Assumpton Parish jail when charges were filed, in connection with a different murder case.

“We follow the evidence,” said Thibodaux Police Chief Bryan Zeringue. “The evidence led us to Bruce Johnson and Anthony Ayrow, and although their arrests will not bring back Lillian – the family may be able to find some peace of mind knowing Lillian’s killers are behind bars.”

Alexis was working at her family’s store at 1200 Tiger Drive on Dec. 26, 2014, when two gunmen announced a robbery, and she was shot during commission of the crime.

Johnson is being held at the Lafourche Parish jail while Ayrow remains in custody at the jail in Assumption Parish. Both are being held without bond.

Zeringue said the investigation is continuing, and that anyone with information is asked to call Det. Sgt. Val Taylor at 985-446-7294.
