Terrebonne authorities are on the hunt for a 34-year-old Chauvin man suspected of shooting a Smithridge man in the leg.

Around 11:45 p.m. Tuesday, a shooting in the 4800 block of Bayouside Drive was reported to the Terrebonne sheriff’s office. The suspected shooter, Terry Jones Jr., fled before deputies arrived, Sheriff Jerry Larpenter said.

The 49-year-old victim’s injuries were non-threatening, and he was airlifted to a New Orleans hospital, the sheriff said.

Larpenter said Jones, the victim and his girlfriend’s son were arguing moments before the shooting. It was uncertain what the argument was about, the sheriff said.

Anyone with information about the shooting or Jones’ whereabouts is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 985-876-2500, or Bayou Region Crime Stoppers, 1-800-743-7433. Tips may lead to a cash reward.
