Tropical Storm Barry is getting stronger in the Gulf of Mexico and forecasters again say he is expected to become a hurricane by landfall.

At the 10 a.m. advisory, the National Hurricane Center upped Barry’s winds to 65 mph, as satellite images clearly show he is getting more defined and better organized after struggling through high wind shearing yesterday.

The storm is located at 28.2 north and 90.4 west. It is moving west, northwest at 5 mph.

The Hurricane Center’s track, however, has shifted a little to the west and now takes the storm on a landfall between New Iberia and Lafayette.

Last night, the centerline was between New Iberia and Morgan City.

The farther west the storm goes, the more likely our area will be to evade some of the strongest winds and storm surge impacts from Barry.
