Close your eyes and imagine the picture perfect day in Southeast Louisiana.

For most, there would be clear skies and cool, comfortable temperatures.

While we’re at it, we’d probably wish for tons of good eats, good people, loud music and a good time to be had for all.

At the Cut Off Youth Center this weekend, the above-listed particulars won’t be a dream, but instead will be reality.

Boilin’ on Da Bayou will take place on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. at COYC, one of the most anticipated fund raiser events in south Lafourche Parish every spring.

The event features all you can eat crawfish for $20. Children ages 5-10 eat for $10.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the COYC – a community center which provides entertainment to hundreds, if not thousands of Lafourche residents annually.

“It’s always a great day,” COYC Director D’Lynn Boudreaux said last year during the event. “All of the work is done for you. We cook them and we serve them. All people have to do is show up with an empty stomach ready to eat.”

But there is a little competition involved, too, which makes it even more fun.

The boil is a team competition designed to try and crown the crawfish king of south Louisiana.

Throughout event planning, Boudreaux said teams are formed, and all the participants set up around the youth center’s pavilion throughout the day to serve their finished creations.

After the crawdads have been cooked, a committee will eat a few mudbugs from each station, grading for taste, seasoning and other variables.

When it’s all said and done, awards will be handed out and folks in attendance will know definitively who the kings (or queens) of the boilers are in a given year.

The event is an annual one for COYC. Boudreaux said how much money the event brings in varies on weather, the economic climate and other variables.

This year’s boil is anticipated, because of the weather.

Forecasts call for 74 degrees and sunny.

Combine that with good food, live music, drinks and crawfish, how could anyone want more?
