Terrebonne Parish President Gordon Dove said this evening that citizens should prepare to feel Tropical Storm Barry’s effects until Sunday.
Dove updated citizens based on some of the most recent information he’s been given from meteorologists regarding the storm.
“Based on our final National Weather Service scheduled briefing late this afternoon, it appears Terrebonne Parish will experience tropical storm force winds throughout Saturday, July 13 and into Sunday morning,” said Parish President Gordon Dove. “Fortunately, the National Weather Service does not think at this time that Barry will become a hurricane and that is good news for us.”
Dove said rain will be the biggest threat with Barry.
Terrebonne Parish is still slightly in the cone of error for Barry on its most western edge.
Dove said the parish’s EOC will be staffed throughout the evening.
He added that while emergency crews are standing by, some services will be suspended if the wind and rain becomes unsafe for workers to be on the roads.
Dove also reminded citizens of the curfew, which goes into effect at 10 p.m. tonight and will last through 10 a.m. tomorrow.
He said law enforcement will patrol parish roads to make sure the curfew is being enforced.
“For one thing,” he said, “when conditions get that bad, it will be unsafe for folks to be on the road unless it is absolutely necessary.”
Dove said sandbag operations in Terrebonne ceased this evening around 4:30 p.m because winds and rains became too much to operate the stations.
Dove said he wants Terrebonne Parish residents to stay calm in knowing that the parish’s EOC team will continue to monitor the situation and inform the public of any developments.
“Just be safe and hunker down, Terrebonne will be fine!” Dove said.
