After carefully monitoring the actual and expected impacts of Tropical Storm Cristobal throughout the day, Terrebonne Parish President Gordon Dove has ordered the closure of the Emergency Operations Center in Gray, LA, effective 5:00 PM, Sunday, June 7, 2020.

“With reports from all communities inside the hurricane protection levee system indicating no flooding or other problems, emergency operations are no longer needed,” he said.

However, the parish’s Public Works and Engineering personnel as well as EOC staff will remain on standby since the storm’s effects are expected to diminish. If any problems occur, such as downed power lines, parish residents can report these problems to the Emergency Operations Center at 985-868-5050. The parish’s Emergency Operations Center has been on full operational status since Noon, Saturday, June 6, 2020, on a 24-hour basis.

Although areas of Terrebonne Parish outside of the Morganza Hurricane Protection Levee have experienced water higher than normal, the expected 4-6 ft. storm surge has not occurred. This expected surge prompted the mandatory evacuation of Zone 1 in the parish and the opening of a shelter at the Houma Municipal Auditorium. The evacuation notice will be cancelled effective 8:00 PM, Sunday, June 7, 2020.  However, the shelter at Municipal Auditorium will remain open through the night as a precaution.

Parish President Dove also announces that all parish offices will be closed on Monday, June 8, 2020, for non-essential employees. Essential employees are expected to report for work on Monday.  ALL employees, however, are to report for work on Tuesday, June 9, 2020, unless otherwise notified.

The Terrebonne Parish Clerk of Court’s office and Fletcher Technical Community College will also be closed on Monday, June 8, 2020.

“Thanks to the coordinated effort between parish employees and the Terrebonne Levee and Conservation District, Terrebonne Parish was well prepared for this storm and its emergency response effort was very well organized,” said Parish President Dove.

“Levees in a few areas of the parish which experienced problems for Hurricane Barry were shored up over the past several months and no problems were experienced during Cristobal. We will continue to monitor the situation as the storm moves farther to the north and inform the public of any developments which could impact the parish. Public safety is our foremost concern,” he said.
