Winds and rains are beginning to slack off in Terrebonne Parish and parish government said recovery and restoration operation underway and will continue for as long as necessary to get the parish back to normal.

Parish President Gordon Dove’s office issued a release this afternoon saying that residents of the parish should stay off the roads as best as possible today to not impede or interfere with utility crews and trucks working to restore power to the tens of thousands of locals without it.

The crews will be working as quickly and safely as possible to get lights back on and air conditioners back working.

If any locals without power run out of food, the Food Bank is preparing Special Food Packets designed to get folks through a few days until all power is restored.

The Food Bank will be open tomorrow, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday for distribution of these special packets and regular distribution.

Extra staff will also be on hand to assist the public and the Food Bank will stay open past closing time, if necessary, on those days to serve the public.

FMI, please call the Food Bank at (985) 851-5523. The Food Bank is located at 254 Magnolia Street in Houma.

Dove said storm damage debris removal is also underway in Terrebonne.

Residents are asked to stack storm debris in the public right of way for pickup.

Dove said it’s important to avoid stacking debris on or near water meter vaults, fire hydrants or any above-ground utility (like overhead power lines), because doing this could cause damage and/or impede pickup operations.

Vegetative debris must be separated from construction and demolition debris, as these will be collected separately.

Only loose debris will be collected – nothing in bags.

Household garbage collection begins back on Monday.

The parish’s Good Earth Transit System will resume regular scheduled service in Houma and Thibodaux on Monday, July 15, 2019.
