Nicholls State University has confirmed that a text message regarding coronavirus on campus is a hoax.

“We can confirm that there are no cases of coronavirus on campus,” shared Terry Braud, Vice President of Finance and Administration, on a phone call this morning with the Times.

The Times and Nicholls urge students who receive suspicious texts with questionable links to contact official sources before spreading rumors.

Here is the official statement from Nicholls State University regarding this matter:

Nicholls State University DOES NOT have any confirmed cases of Novel Coronavirus. Furthermore, there have been no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state of Louisiana to date.

There are some messages being distributed via text message and social media claiming that Nicholls State University officials have confirmed a case of Coronavirus within the NSU community. This claim is false and should not be spread.

University officials are continuing to monitor the situation and are in communication with state and regional officials about the progress of COVID-19. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) website is an up-to-date resource to educate yourself on preventing the spread of this virus.
