We don’t yet know exactly who will be Nicholls State University’s next president.

But we can narrow the selection down to three.

The Nicholls State University Presidential Search Committee has selected three finalists to present to the Board of Supervisors for the University of Louisiana System to consideration.

The finalists are Jay Clune, Marcheta Evans and John Doucet, who were chosen out of six semifinalists who interviewed publicly for the job this past week.

The Board will now meet on Nov. 14 in Baton Rouge to interview the finalists with hopes of selecting a president at that time.

“We had a productive three days introducing and, in most cases, reintroducing Nicholls State University to six qualified semifinalists,” UL System President and CEO Jim Henderson said. “The Board has a tough choice ahead of it. Our three finalists possess impressive leadership skills that will aid in coalescing the community to support the institution and ensure its bright future.”

Of the finalists, only Doucet is currently affiliated with Nicholls. He is the university’s College of Arts and Sciences Dean.

Clune is a graduate of Nicholls and is the current Interim Dean at the University of West Florida.

Evans is the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Our Lady of the Lake University.

The new candidate will replace Dr. Bruce Murphy, who announced earlier this year that he will resign from Nicholls effective at the beginning of 2018.
