Fletcher Technical Community College’s planned career center got a boost last week when Synergy Bank donated $25,000 to the project.

The center will be used for admissions, financial aid, career services and some student activities, on the main campus in Schriever. An important attribute, school officials said of the center, will be its use as a venue where industry leaders and students can meet and talk, with an eye toward helping future employment potentials along.

Jerry Ledet, Synergy’s CEO, said the bank is honored to be able to help.

“Fletcher provides a quality education to thousands of students each year,” Ledet said. “We are happy to help provide resources to these students throughout the year.”

Dr. Kristine Strickland, the school’s chancellor, expressed gratitude for Synergy’s donation, which she said will greatly aid Fletcher’s mission.

The Louisiana Legislature authorized construction of the center in 2013.

Bonds were issued for the cost, but those bonds are contingent on a 12 percent match from private donations from other sources.

“Fletcher Technical Community College is fortunate to have Synergy Bank as a partner in providing quality higher education to the Bayou Region,” Strickland said. “Through the continued generosity of Synergy, Fletcher will be able to continue to fulfill its mission of providing access to all citizens of our region.” ∙
