Fletcher Technical Community College will host two courses for small business owners and prospective owners this month.

The Louisiana Small Business Development Center is bringing the courses in cooperation with both the Lafourche and Terrebonne Parish governments to the Bayou Region. The two-hour classes will cover the critical steps of getting a fledgling business off the ground.

The first course will be on Sept. 6 and is called “Securing Business Financing in 5 Steps.” The course is from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and covers topics like identifying a business’s financial needs and capital sources as well as preparing essential documents for an investor.

“When you know what a lender is looking for and the questions the ender needs answered, you will greatly improve your chances of obtaining the financing that your business needs to start, grow and expand,” the press release announcing the class reads.

The second course, “Starting and Financing Your Business,” is the following week on Sept. 13 from 10 a.m. to noon. That seminar provides an overview of the steps taken to start a business and the essentials of business planning.

Terrebonne Economic Development Authority Director of Business Retention and Expansion Katherine Gilbert-Theriot said both courses are valuable information sources for business owners to discover what resources are available to assist owners in fostering a healthy company. LSBDC business consultant Jimmy Nguyen will be the speaker for both seminars, and there is no registration fee for either. They both take place at Fletcher’s Houma campus at 310 Saint Charles St. Interested parties can register at lsbdc.org or by calling 504-831-3730.
