The Lafourche Parish School Board recognized 21 students at its meeting last Wednesday for receiving national and state awards and honors for academics and athletics. Three employees were also recognized for recent achievements.


Such student recognition, Superintendent JoAnn Matthews said, bears out the school system’s core purpose.

“What is really important is that we push our kids every day to be the best that they can be,” Matthews said.

Two of the employees recognized for achievement were Pamela Tardo of the school board office and Tena Pitre of the Pupil Appraisal Center, for fulfilling state requirements for Certified Administrative Assistant.


James Shorter of the Pupil Appraisal Center was commended for receiving the Louisiana School Psychologist Association’s School Psychologist of the Year award.

Students recognized were:

M´Chel Crosby, Raceland Middle School, finalist for the Council for Exceptional Children’s “Yes I Can” award.


Horn player Maiah Griffin and euphonium player Mandilyn Hutchinson, Thibodaux High, selected as members of the Louisiana Music Educators’ Association All-State Band.

Madison Scioneaux, Thibodaux High, Louisiana Association of Student Council District IV president.

Makayla Kraemer, Caroline Neal, Madison Scioneaux and Alec Steiffel, Thibodaux High, recognized as NASC Nationally Certified Leaders.


Bryce Messer, Thibodaux High, recognized as NASC Dale Hawley Outstanding Leader in the state.

Benjamin Reaux, South Lafourche High, Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s composite Academic All State 5-A Football Team.

Blair Brooks and Peyton Bonvillain, Thibodaux High, Louisiana Sportswriter’s Class 5A All-State Football Team.


Jayquan Chenier, Thibodaux High, Sportswriter’s Team and the Louisiana Football Coaches Association 2nd Class 5A All-State Football Team.

Marquis Garman, Thibodaux High, Louisiana Football Coaches Association 1st Team Class 5A All-State Football Team.
