On the heels of its sixth year of business, Courtyard Marriott in Houma is setting the tone for relaxing getaways whether for business or pleasure.

The 144-room hotel, conveniently located within five miles of the city’s major attractions, opened in October 2010 and was constructed as a means of attracting more meetings and conventions to the Houma area. Last year alone, General Manager Karen Owens said the hotel welcomed approximately 40,000 guests looking to rest their head in a comfortable, accommodating environment.

Among the amenities at Courtyard Marriott Houma are the Vieux Carre Lounge, an intimate bar off the hotel’s main lobby Owens said is a favorite for locals, free WiFi throughout the facility, expedited, paperless check-in and indoor and outdoor pools. There’s also 4,500 square feet of meeting space for everything from business seminars to weddings and an in-house market pantry offering late night snacks or essentials guests may have forgotten at home.

The lobby, Owens said, is also a popular meeting spot because of its plug and play capability and space.

“A lot of locals like to come in,” she explained. “The lobby is really nice, you can plug and play, which is kind of how Marriott is set up. A lot of people like to use the lobby for meetings, interviews and just a place to kind of settle your thoughts. We have a book club that meets here. It’s very spacious so it can accommodate a lot of people.”

The hotel is also in the midst of a bit of a transformation, a move to constantly offer guests modern amenities and conveniences.

The Bistro at Courtyard Mariott Houma is open daily for lunch and dinner with a new Lagniappe menu recently released offering favorites that appeal to both in-town and out-of-town appetites.

Many of the new dishes are being shared on the hotel’s social media to encourage those in town to come in and try out the dishes and a special of the day on Fridays keeps eaters coming back for more.

“On Fridays, it’ll be like a surprise,” Owens explained. “The special of the day could be anything from blackened trout to lasagna.”

Owens said much of the facility is also set to be renovated come the fall to ensure all guests are treated to the best in hotel accommodations.

Whether a native of the area or passing through for a weekend baseball game or conference, Courtyard Marriott Houma is ready to serve you. It’s the staff’s top priority, Owen said, to ensure guests are taken care of whether they are spending the night or passing through looking for a delicious meal in the Houma-Thibodaux community.

“Our hotel, we receive both [local and out-of-town guests],” she explained. “It’s more people from the outside but we do get a lot of locals. It’s almost like it’s a little vacation for the locals…You’re taken care of here.” •
