Danos employee Joel Ontiveros was given high praise from his peers this week.

An 18-year veteran in the oil and gas industry, Ontiveros was named the local business’s 2016 Field Employee of the Year this past week – one of the highest honors available within the longstanding local company.

Ontiveros is a Grand Rapids, Mich., native and a resident of Kaplan.

He was nominated for the award by his peers. They said he was worthy of the honor because of his commitment to Danos’ core values and high-performance culture. A committee of past winners reviewed all company nominations and selected Ontiveros as the 2016 winner.

“Joey is one of our most trusted field safety supervisors,” said Mark Danos, Danos’ vice president of project services. “His dedication as a mentor and his hands-on approach has significantly impacted the teams he engages with and ultimately contributed to Danos achieving the lowest total recordable incident rate in company history in 2016.”

Ontiveros has been with Danos for more than three years, though he has almost two decades of experience in the oil and gas industry.

In his role, he provides expert safety leadership and supervision to workers on job sites in a wide range of environments, according to a company release.

As a field safety technician, Ontiveros is also called upon to both conduct and supervise a variety of audits, checks and inspections, as well as managing internal safety reporting procedures and ensuring that important safety information is communicated between the major project job sites and headquarters.

He is also fluent in both English and Spanish, which helps on job sites, according to employers.
