The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office is offering a lesson for first-time gun owners this Saturday.

The beginner handgun course is meant to give those who’ve recently purchased a gun a chance to learn the fundamentals of ownership. The course will touch on firearms handling and shooting safety, gun parts and their operations as well as ammunition and its function. The course will also address shooting fundamentals and development of those fundamentals, cleaning and storing guns and one hour of live range fire with a certified safety instructor.

The course starts at 8 a.m. on Saturday at the LPSO Shooting Range at 3451 La. Hwy 182 in Raceland and lasts until around noon. Those participating in the course will need to bring 50 rounds of ammo, eye protection and ear protection. The course costs $50, and advance registration is suggested. You can register online at lpso.net/beginnerhandgunreg or contact Captain Lafate Day at (985) 449-4485 for more information.
