Fireworks are officially able to be popped again in celebration of Independence Day.

Well, in unincorporated parts of Lafourche Parish, at least.

The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office released the fireworks schedule for the 2018 Independence Day holiday on yesterday – the first day where poppers were able to be popped legally in the parish in conjunction with the holiday.

The firework season in Lafourche will run from June 26-July 5. Poppers are banned from Terrebonne Parish and also from the Town of Golden Meadow (except Oakridge Park) and the City of Thibodaux.

From June 26-July 2, fireworks are able to legally be popped from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

As we get closer to the holiday, hours expand. On July 3-4, hours expand from 9 a.m. to midnight, then on July 5, fireworks remain legal, but the hours shift back to 9 a.m. – 9 p.m.

LPSO warns citizens to not use fireworks while drinking and also to keep them out of the hands of children.

Authorities also warn to not try and re-light any poppers which are faulty or are not working as intended.
