A small section of South Hollywood Road will be closed for one day this weekend as contractors work to install a drainage pipe.

According to Terrebonne Parish Capital Projects Administrator Jeanne Bray, the portion of South Hollywood in front of Blue Marlin Boat and RV Storage and Hertz Rent A Car will be shut down in both directions for 24 hours, starting at 6 p.m. on Friday. Bray said all businesses on Hollywood will have access from either La. Highway 311 or Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.

The shutdown is the result of continued drainage work for the Hollywood Road widening project. Providence GSE, the contracting company on the job, is set to install a 72-inch drainage pipe across the roadway.

Bray said drainage work is the last step before Providence GSE begins to pave the roadway. The $11.4 million project to make South Hollywood a four-lane roadway from La. 311 to Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. began in the summer of 2014 after many delays. The project, slated for a January 2016 completion when construction began, now has a contract end date of December of this year, according to Bray.

Bray said she is not sure when pavement work would start, but that the contractor’s end date is still in December.

“We don’t have a timeline on that. It’s just they have specific timelines for the endpoint of the contract, but how they get to it, how many days they spend on drainage versus the roadways, that’s not for us to decide, that’s for the contractor to know,” Bray said.
