Terrebonne Parish is always prepared for rising waters with our system of levees and flood gates.

Keeping track of gate closures is easy for mariners and other interested parties in Terrebonne Parish, thanks to a web-based application that officials say offers a new level of information and ways to receive it.

The website can be accessed through your phone, tablet or computer at http://www.tlcd.org/mobile/.

The most important step once there, said Reggie Dupre, Executive Director of the Terrebonne Levee & Conservation District, is to make sure and register for the related text alerts. Registration can be completed online by clicking on the lower right-hand side of your screen and placing information on the dialogue box.

Once registered you can receive text updates of when closures are pending, when they have occurred and when they area opened again.

The website also offers more information on conditions at 9 of 13 flood gates. By clicking on the arrows on the right-hand side of the list, you can expand the options for that particular flood gate. Data shown includes flood levels, wind direction and wind speed. You can view current conditions, conditions over the last 24 hours, and also the past 7 days.

As of 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, the following flood gates are closed: Humble Canal, Bush Canal, Placid Canal, Bayou Grand Canal, Pointe aux Chenes, Bayou Dularge, Bayou Black, Upper Little Caillou Auxiliary gate.

The HNC Bubba Dove and Bayou Petit Caillou are pending closure.
