South Central Industrial Association (SCIA) has donated money to three programs at Nicholls State University.

The local four-year university announced this week that it has received donations from SCIA, which will benefit the university’s Geomatics, mass communications and petroleum engineering programs.

Each donation is for $2,000 and it will benefit all aspects of each program.

“This money will go to the students, faculty and the program,” said Dr. Lynn Gillette, the provost and vice president for academic affairs at Nicholls. “Here at Nicholls, we’re constantly striving to meet the needs of the local industry. Donations like this one are an investment into the future of the Bayou Region.”

SCIA is based out of Houma and is a non-profit. The group partners with Bayou Region industry leaders to promote economic growth in the community.

SCIA Director Christy Naquin, a Nicholls alum, said the group is happy to help the local university when it can

“The SCIA supports local higher education and that includes Nicholls State University,” she said. “We chose those three programs because of their impact on our local business industry. It’s very important that we take care of the higher education institutions in our backyard because they produce some of the finest graduates in the area.”
